the occasional sombrero
by John J. Powers.

Jonathan Huxley's art is designed for pleasure - for himself and the spectator. Human figures in constant, energetic movement, surrounded by useful objects in our common memory - umbrellas, hats, bathtubs, ladders, and the occasional sombrero - float alone, and with others, often with outstretched arms or in embraces, in attitudes of exultation or excitement. Bright colour surrounds dancer-like shapes rising among shadows.

These figures move beyond the edge of each canvas and seem to be illuminated from somewhere beyond or above the frame. more >>
